Jessica Witkowski
Jessica started riding as a young girl at age 4 and got her first riding lessons at Crossroads stable from Tina Renison. As she grew up she participated enthusiastically in California Gymkhana Association events all over California and took many lessons from the top riders in her regions. She also rode in California State Horsemen's Association events and set several records in poles 1 and hurry scurry. She entered all state shows and finals and made it into the match races on horses she personally trained. As a teenager she began to specialize in barrels and poles, going to as many open races as she could. She then started breaking her own colts and buying higher pedigrees of quarter horses built for speed and turns.

This is when she realized she had a passion for horse training and passing along to other people what she has learned.

Her experience in barrel horse training is largely the result of her time at Lamar Community College, where she graduated top of her class in horse training and management and barrel horse training and where she trained under Julie Ryderberg, a Nationals Final Rodeo qualifier, who gave her the tools to make a well-rounded barrel horse. JJ Ryderberg taught her the core fundamentals of colt starting and how to cut cows correctly with a flag and in the pen. While in college she set a record as the only student to break and train two colts who later made perfect scores in the reining tests. She was also the only student of her class to compete at the college show, where she won the all-around cowgirl buckle and the Ryderberg scholarship.

She finished college with honors and moved onto her first internship with the Running F Quarter Horses ranch, where she gained real-world work experience in ranching, breeding, and training of barrel horses. For her second internship she went to Erin Ricotti, well-known futurity rider, professional horse trainer, and jockey. Under Erin she learned how to finish a barrel horse and get it ready for rodeos along with starting her first futurity horse, DL SMOKE N UP FAME. She learned how to get real speed and accuracy out of her horses.

She specializes in barrel horse training because it’s her passion, but she also enjoys giving lessons to all ages and levels of riders. From basic riding lessons like saddling and training for trail, to also competing and racing competitively in speed events.
